Transmission system models provide the foundation for MISO’s planning processes. Reliability (Powerflow and Dynamics) models support the core planning functions necessary to ensure compliance with the MISO Tariff and North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) standards. MISO employs a collaborative, stakeholder-driven process to develop assumptions that ensure appropriate modeling of future transmission system scenarios. Models are also coordinated with MISO’s neighboring entities through the NERC Multi-regional Modeling Working Group (MMWG) to ensure systems are accurately represented across its seams.
MISO develops annual models using stakeholder data for a variety of near-term and long-term planning studies; models represent a 10-year planning horizon. The modeling process runs from September to the following August.
